Charge Point Operator (CPO)

A company that installs, owns or operates EV charging stations and manages their pricing, maintenance and access.

A charge point operator runs charging stations: it manages the hardware, software, power connections, maintenance, pricing and customer access. A CPO may own the chargers or operate them on behalf of a site host such as a mall, hotel, fuel station or housing society.

Under the Ministry of Power's 2024 guidelines, public charging stations can be set up by any individual or entity provided they meet technical, safety and performance standards, and public land can be offered to operators on a revenue-share basis.
