Time-of-Day (ToD) Tariff

An electricity pricing structure where the rate per unit varies by time of day, often lower during solar hours.

Under a time-of-day tariff, electricity costs more during peak demand periods and less during off-peak periods. Several Indian DISCOMs apply ToD tariffs to commercial and EV charging connections.

The Ministry of Power's 2024 guidelines for EV charging infrastructure encourage lower tariffs for public charging stations during solar hours, with higher rates at other times. Scheduling charging into cheaper periods can significantly reduce costs, especially for fleets and workplaces.
